The idea initiated with Sharmila’s strong desire to teach and popularize Indian Music in Canada. Sharmila currently Directs the Indian Music Ensemble at the University of Alberta. The Indian Music Academy aims to popularize Classical Indian Music in Alberta and in Canada and aims to make learning music enjoyable and relaxing, and prepare students to further their study in this rewarding and ancient pursuit.
